I was born in the South—North Carolina, to be exact—but didn't remain there long. My growing up years were spent moving from state to state. By the time I reached college, I'd lived in Alaska, Ohio, Texas, Florida, California, and Hawaii.
After graduating with a degree in Communication from the University of Hawaii at Hilo, I moved to Virginia to pursue a master's degree in Communication at Regent University. I graduated in 2003. There, I also met and married my husband, Ted. We've been married for over six years and have three little girls.
My freelance writing career started at age sixteen when my mom submitted two music reviews I'd written to The Magazine for Christian Youth. Since then, my writing has been published in the books Chicken Soup for the Teenage Christian Soul, All Music Guide to Hip-Hop: The Definitive Guide to Rap and Hip-Hop, and All Music Guide to Soul: The Definitive Guide to R&B and Soul, as well as the periodicals and websites Marriage Partnership, Brio, Brio & Beyond, Guideposts’ Angels on Earth, Focus on the Family Magazine, Radiant, The Small Group Exchange, Campus Life, Focus on Your Child, YOU!, The Magazine for Christian Youth, Youth ‘97, Youth ‘98, Release, and Sunday/Monday Woman.
For five years (1995-2000), I was a media critic for LinC (Living in Christ): Youth Connecting Faith and Culture. I also wrote music reviews and artist bios for All Music Guide for two years (2001-2003). My work from All Music Guide appears on websites including Billboard, Amazon, MSN Shopping, Artist Direct, BMG Music, Barnes and Noble, and Yahoo! Music.
I currently serve as the editor of the webzine Ungrind.
